Technical analysis

Technique (Camera, setting, people, props).
What, how and when is this shown
Meaning and what it suggests to the audience
Voice over
The opening scene he was describing his relationship with his daughters and now has to care of them while his wife is in hospital.
This told the audience that this film is a serious drama based true story. This is because he’s explaining like it’s his real life and his connection between his girls. This makes it sound like a drama as it’s like it is actually happening in real life.
Music
All the way through the opening scene.
The music is very sad and thoughtful and give the impression that this is a serious topic.
Main character exampling off camera
Only in opening scene
Make the audience want to listen and actually feel like they are being told a real life story.
Story line
Clips from other scenes in the movie
This makes the audience feel like this is someone’s life and they are telling you a story on what happened and how he reconnected with his two daughters.
Medium long shots
Medium long shots were used throughout the opening scene. This was because there was many clips from other parts of the film and a story being told so couldn’t have a variety of different shots.
This was probably done so that the audience could easily follow the story being told by the voice over (George Clooney the main character).

Shots
1. Medium close up
2. Establishing shot x 2
3. Long shot
4. Medium long shot
5. Pans
6. Medium close up
7. zooms in to close up of wife then cuts to close up of husband

Sound
1. Soundtrack - starts at 56 seconds and finishes at 2 mins and 13 secs
2. Diegetic sound
3. voice over
4. 2nd soundtrack starts at 3 mins 22 secs and fades out around 3 mins 40 secs

Representation of character
The main character is represented as the stereotypical male but is shown with some stereotypical women features. This is because in the film he has to take care of his daughters due to mum in hospital so has to take the role of a women and man in the house.
