Narrative

There is a you tube video playing right at the start of the scene, this then turns out to be the main Character David Clark watching it. He then reserves text messages from different people, these turn to be asking for drugs. So he fills his suitcase with various types of drugs before leaving his flat. David goes to varies people, from a mum with a baby to a high class business man.

Characters in opening scene

In the first scene of We're the Millers the audience only meets the main character and gives clues of his life and what he does.

Setting 

The first setting is Davids flat, which looks like a typical drug dealers flat. Then tracks David delivering the drugs to other people.

Funny YouTube videos
Right at the start David is watching funny you tube videos on his laptop.
This give a clue to the audience that is the main character is watching a funny video then there could be a chance of the film being funny as well.
What the main character says and how he says it
The script is well written for the first scene
The first few thing David says in the first scene are quite funny and are probably there to draw in the audience and make them think if you’re laughing now carry on watching till later.
Facial expressions
Main on David in the first scene and who he gives the drugs to.
The facial expressions do draw you in while starting to watch the film. The get the audience’s attention and makes you (the audience) feel like a part of the film. This makes the first scene funny as the audience feel like the characters are speaking to you in a funny way.
Who David delivers the drugs to
In the first scene you see David delivering drugs to other people.
David delivers the drugs to mum of a baby, business man chef. This makes the first scene quite funny as you wouldn’t expect these people wanting drugs.
Music
The music last all the way through the first scene.
The music is very upbeat and jolly like. This tells the audience that the film is similar to the music. It also makes you want to watch the rest of the film as it kind of grabs your attention.

Representation of characterThe main character in the opening scene is shown as the stereotypical male, this is through the settings he is shown in, his costume and personality. He is shown as independent, intelligent and brave which are the main stereotypes features for men.
