Ian is now on a mission to find his brothers killer.

Characters in opening scene

In the opening scene the audience gets a big understanding of who the main character is. This is done by him being the only one talking, his costume, personality, the way he is in most of the shots and is the only one in the hospital that walks out alive and with no cuts.

Setting

The first scene is set in the main city hospital, that has been destroyed by Ian Shaw.

Technical analysis

Technique (Camera, setting, people, props).
What, how and when is this shown
Meaning and what it suggests to the audience
Establishing shot of the city
The first ever shot in the film
This sets the scene to the audience and gives a little understanding of the type of film based on the setting.
Voice with establishing shot
Ian Shaw is already talking to his brother when the camera is on the establishing shot.
This draws the audience into the film as they have to listen to what is being said.
Over the shoulder shot
The camera looking over Ian’s shoulder, with Ian looking out the window at what was the establishing shot of the city.

Zooms out
The camera zooms out of Ian’s shoulder to a medium close up, as Ian turns around.
This shows the audience that this man could be a key character and is quite important.
Pans round/ follows Ian to hospital bed
Now the audience is seeing a new character.
By the new character being in a hospital bed again the audience can tell that Ian is or must be the main bad or good character.
Props - Gun
Ian gives his brother a gun.
This shows the audience that Ian is important and that you wouldn’t want to mess with him. This shot also starts to show to the audience the gender of the film, as gun could mean violence or action.
Dead police man on the floor
As Ian walks through the hospital to leave there is all dead or injured police man on the floor and the hospital is all destroyed.
This shows the audience that this film is defiantly an action film.
Music
As Ian is talking to his brother music starts to play in the background and gets louder as he leaves. The music is upbeat and dangerous.
This music is showing the audience that the film is an upbeat film and that it is an action.
Car
At the end Ian gets in his Jaguar to drive off.
This proves that the film is an action as it has a fast car and he speeds off into the distance.
Fight scene (exciting)
Ian has distorted the hospital

He is also shown as intelligent, strong, brave and competitive which are all male stereotypes.
