Skyfall 007

Skyfall was created in 2012 and directed by Sam Mendes. The film was awarded 8 BAFTA nominations, including best supporting actor and best supporting actress. Skyfall also got five academy award nominations, including best song (by Adele).
In the opening scene you have:
- James bond walking into an hotel room, which has a man dying in an arm chair, looking at laptop on the coffee table, with a part missing from it.
- James goes down a flight of stairs which led to a street (with his gun in his hand). As James got onto the street his field partner (Eve) drove round the corner. James got in the car and she pointed down the one way street.
- They started chancing a black BMW down the market street. During the chase the scene change to them chasing the man in the car and M in her office telling them what to do through head pieces.
- During the chase they drive past a group of parked police motorbikes, which then join the chase.
- Next both cars come side by side and try to bash into each other, but get separated by people and parked motorbikes.
- Then James grabs the wheel and turns their car straight into the BMW, making the BMW lose control and catches the edge of the front wheel and tips the car on its side.
- They then both crash into different markets. Both James and the man from the BMW get out of their cars and start to shoot at each other. Then the police men also chasing come down and the man from the BMW shot them dead to the ground. He then takes one of their police bikes and rides off.
- James still shooting at him chases him for a second on foot before taking someones bike and starts to chase him again. Eve updates M and starts chasing the both of them.
There are many things in this opening scene that one make it effective and two make you want to watch the rest of the film. The things that make the opening scene effective is the the angels and shots of the camera. In the first scene of the film it must use more different shots and angels then another whole film. This is to engage the audience into the film to make sure they carry on watching it and possibly buy the DVD if they are watching it in the cinema. Another example which makes this film effective is the sounds (music), what the characters say - as its not loads but enough to keep the audience intrigued in the scene and so they carry on watching. The first scene also has very good actors and actresses but also introduces all the main characters so the audience gets to know them straight away, this creates more effect in the scene as the audience can then see what the rest of the move should be like and start to understand the story line and who everyone is (if they are good or bad).
The main thing the first scene does is set up the story for the audience and draw them into the story, the film does this well as it did make me want to carry on watching and even if you haven't watched any James bond films before you understand whats going on; and understand the characters personalities and uniqueness.
In the first scene you get to meet all the characters (which I think is a good idea). You firstly see Bond the one main character that everyone wants to meet. His personality comes across as power, clever, smart, brave and a very dominant man. You can tell all this through the way he acts (walks, holds himself (posture), the location he is in - which is violent - and his voice sound strong and manly). The audience then gets to meet Eve, Bonds field partner, her personality came across as a sexy, strong and powerful women that could be able to fight for herself. This was shown through her clothing (wasn't over girly) and through the way she acted and was not scared to hurt anyone. Then we meet M the boss. M is shown talking the Bond and Eve through walki talkies, kn her main office. She is shown as a boss and you can see her table at the front of her office, but with her assistants in front of her taking orders. The audience (very briefly) meet the bad guy - who basically goes across bad and thinks he has all the power in the world just because he has a gun.
The sound is a big part of the opening scene because when Bond is waling through the hotel it is silent apart from Bond and Ms voice. Then when Bond walks out it start to get load, this shows that he is walking into something bad.The sound/ music gets louder as the tension builds.
I think Skyfall has the best opening to any other film because a lot is happening at once, straight away there is a story line and tension is already starting to build. This is great because it draws in the audience and makes them want to carry on watching the film.
